From October 2018 to October 2020, Waila conducted a biochar field trial on a conventionally used asparagus field on the Swedish island of Gotland. The biochar field trial was part of the project E-kol-ogiskt! and was carried out in cooperation with Stenhuse Gård, Daniel Fischer, the Swedish University of Agriculture and Gotland Grönt Centrum. The project was funded by LEADER Gute and the Swedish Board of Agriculture. The summary of the project results is available for download here. More detailed research results were published in the Springer Journal of Soil Science and Plant Nutrition in 2021. The article Biochar-Fertilizer Blends – a Valuable soil Amendment for Asparagus Cultivation? can be viewed here.
